Low Energy Retrofit

Posted 19th January 2020

This project, Phase 2 follows on from the outbuilding completed last year.

The property is an Edwardian seaside chalet bungalow near Deal, which had been subject to numerous unsympathetic alterations. The first floor rooms within the roof were hampered by low headroom.

Conker were appointed to undertake the detailed design for a full low-energy retrofit. This included a complete replacement of the roof structure, new rear and side extensions and external wall insulation. A particularly challenging aspect was the irregular geometry of the existing floor plan, which had implications for the new and existing roof forms.

Original joinery and features are being retained or reinstated where possible and the front elevation has been designed to emulate the Edwardian character with attractive dormers and sash windows.
