This years Pedalhaus was a great success. We met in Lenham for breakfast, ordering 14 full English’s from the shocked cafe owner.
18 cyclists departed on bikes varying from ‘fat bikes’, thin Tour de France standard racers, town bikes, electric bikes, and one which had circumnavigated the world with 45,000 miles on the clock.
We cycled 8 miles in the sun, meeting a few more cyclists at the property. The gravel drive from the gate to the property is about a mile long, the loose surface split the peloton up dramatically. Once at Caring Wood, James McDonald Wright kindly gave a comprehensive tour of the stunning property. Close up it is easy to see why this building wowed the RIBA judges. The attention to detail and quality are exceptional. Inside the details are clean and simple, so that the emphasis is on the carefully considered views through picture windows.
Externally there are several courtyards, offering sun/shade throughout the day, and a natural swimming pool.
As well as being beautiful, the building obtained CSH Code Level 6, and 0.74 ach in its airtest.
Those of us not watching the royal wedding or the FA cup final, finished the day with a pub lunch and cycle back to Denham, already planning our next Pedalhaus.
