Greenhouse Refurbisment
An early-20th century greenhouse set within a walled garden has been completely overhauled for an educational client.
The greenhouse had fallen into disuse and disrepair however the timber structure itself was reasonably sound. Original winding mechanisms for operating the vents were extant, but had all seized up. None of the original glazing had survived after successive replacement over the years.
Conker Conservation Ltd specified and oversaw the repairs. Layers of old paint were completely stripped and timber repairs carried out where required. The structure was repainted in linseed oil paint and completely re-glazed. The winding mechanisms were dismantled, repaired and put back into full operation.
The greenhouse will now be put to good use by students, who will gain gardening skills by growing their own vegetables and plants within it. Considering such greenhouses are vulnerable to deterioration and complete loss, it was fortuitous that this example had survived.
We look forward to seeing the greenhouse and walled garden remain in use for many years to come following these works.
