New House, Charing, Kent
This new dwelling replaces a dilapidated bungalow in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Considerable planning research and liaison were required due to the very sensitive area.
The design was developed to minimise visual impact and heat loss because of the very exposed site. The property has super insulated walls, floor and roof, and is partially earth sheltered with a planted roof. Solar gain is maximised with dense internal walls for thermal mass.
The design has received Ashfords ‘Building Design and Construction Award 2009, Residential Development category’
