Rebuilding and Conversion of Historic Devonshire Barn
Conker were appointed by the contractor to undertake the design, Building Regulations and technical design process for the conversion of a late-18th century threshing barn into an energy efficient holiday let. The structure was in a ruinous state by the time our client acquired the property. Schemes that other, previous consultants had obtained planning permission for proved to be practically unfeasible when it came to developing the technical design.
Although the planning authority was reluctant to allow extensions, we were able to successfully negotiate with the planners and obtain planning permission for a modern single-story glazed range extension with flat sedum roof. The rear elevation was completely reconstructed out of local stone and a new, highly insulated flat roof structure erected.
The rebuilding and new construction have been carried out to an exceptionally high standard by Terra Perma Ltd. A successful collaboration between contractor/client and ourselves was achievable despite the geographical distance.
