Reconstruction of Farm Classroom
An agricultural barn converted into an eco-classroom.
New walls and a new roof were formed with 300mm I-joists to create a continuous thermal envelope with no cold bridging.
A veranda was provided to give solar shading and alleviate problems with glare and overheating and to provide shelter for inclement weather.
High levels of thermal insulation were installed and air tightness works carried out to ensure very low heat losses in winter with resultant low energy requirements and running costs.
Natural daylighting was maximised wherever possible through use of rooflights and glazing positioning.
A mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery was installed to supply constant low level ventilation when the building is in use, in compliance with BB 101.
