Traditional Buildings: Ventilation and Air Tightness

4th March 2026 1pm – 2pm

Meet your CPD requirements and improve your understanding of building conservation and repair by joining our lunch-hour online sessions focusing on ‘Hot Topics in Building Conservation’.

We’ll be putting some of the most pressing issues affecting the sector under the spotlight. Changing weather patterns, rising energy prices and evolving regulatory requirements are just some of the challenges facing traditional buildings and those who care for them. These lectures will offer valuable insights into how we can tackle these hot topics and safeguard our built heritage for the future.

Paul Mallion (Chartered Building Surveyor and Director, Conker Conservation) will speak about ventilation and air tightness in traditional buildings with a focus on improving energy efficiency.

A CPD certificate can be issued upon request.

Passivhaus Retrofit Case Study Series | 1950s detached home in Kent – online event

5th March 2026 – 1pm – 2pm Eventbrite

Join us for the Passivhaus Retrofit Case Study lunch and learn, exploring this 1950s detached home in Kent.

This project showcases the transformation of a detached 1950s house in Kingsdown, Kent, by Paul Mallion of Conker Conservation, into an EnerPHit-standard home through a comprehensive extension and refurbishment.

By adopting a fabric-first approach, the scheme significantly enhanced energy performance while preserving the original character and functionality of the property.

The house’s simple geometry offered strong potential for a Passivhaus retrofit, and careful attention has been paid to airtight detailing, especially given the challenges posed by cavity wall tie corrosion identified during the pre-purchase survey.

The session will explore:

  • Investigating and understanding the existing building
  • Developing a whole-building retrofit strategy
  • Integrating high-performance retrofit components
  • Managing airtightness, thermal bridging and ventilation design
  • Balancing heritage character with high-performance retrofit outcomes
  • Lessons learned from design, construction and delivery

This webinar forms part of the Passivhaus Trust Retrofit Case Study Series, showcasing real retrofit projects and practical insights into delivering high-quality building performance.
