Conservation

This farmhouse roof was stripped, repaired, strengthened, insulated, ventilated and recovered with many of the original tiles.

Most of the timber in the roof dates to 1327 to 1393, revealed by dendrochronology, trees were 60 years old when felled. Records show that the house was rebuilt in 1820 from the components of an earlier house. Many of the timbers were soot blackened, suggesting an open hall house.
