Eco Refurbishment, Guestling

You may remember this complex retrofit from our previous article. Since then, the project has commenced and is now in full swing, with structural alterations complete and the new glazed extension under construction to the rear. We ourselves have been amazed by the amount of progress made within such a short span of time.

Our appointment retained us for ad hoc advice and conducting site visits when required, partly for geographic reasons and partly because the client’s experience in construction enabled them to undertake the contract administration phase themselves.

Because our involvement was to be “arm’s length” following completion of the design phase, it was important to ensure that all data (in the form of drawings, details and written notes) as part of our technical design was comprehensive and a precise representation. As noted previously, the combination of existing construction types used in the building meant the detail had to be very carefully thought through.

This approach has worked well as the client and contractor have been able to proceed at a consistent pace and we are able to provide a service that is cost-effective for our client.

Another successful project we have designed and consulted on long-distance is this historic barn conversion in Devon.
