RICS South East Awards 2015
Conker is delighted to announce that the Westgate Hall in Canterbury was this years winner in the Community Benefit category for the South East. This award recognises excellent achievement in providing a facility which directly benefits the local community.
The Hall was originally constructed in 1908 in the centre of the city as a drill hall. It served the military through the two world wars and was adapted in the 1960’s for community use, but 3 years ago the council announced it closure. Over a 15 month period the local community, through the new Westgate Community Trust, attracted substantial local support to such an extent that the council granted them a 99 year lease. Funding was obtained and the Hall has been restored and modernised to provide a much sought after venue fit for today.
